Community Chest Habuan Harapan 2024
Embrace the spirit of giving and bring smiles to families-in-need with Habuan Harapan 2024
Co-organised with Heartwarmers and in partnership with Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) and Wisma Geylang Serai (WGS), this first edition of Community Chest Habuan Harapan (the Gift of Hope) unites corporate partners and the community in spreading joy to our service users with the distribution of festive goodie bags for Hari Raya celebrations!
A Father’s Love
Parenthood can be both fulfilling and challenging. The latter is true especially for Mr. Mohamed: sole bread winner, cancer patient and father of 3 children, including Emilia who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy from a young age.
Though every day presents a daunting challenge, Mr Mohamed finds comfort from support extended by the community, such as that from SPD where Emilia attends the Day Activity Centre (DAC) through specialised transportation services funded by Community Chest.
Emilia, in her late twenties now, is unable to live independently due to her condition. At SPD, Emilia engages in activities and therapy aimed at helping her manage simple daily tasks. This allows Mr Mohamed the time to work as a part-time chauffeur, earning a small income to relieve the family’s financial needs, while her stepmother focuses on caring for Emilia and her younger half-siblings.
As of 2022, there are over 30,000 children with special education needs in Singapore. Raising a special needs child is undoubtedly challenging, let alone while battling a life-threatening disease and financial insecurity.
Let us come together to support and strengthen more families in Singapore. Your contribution, no matter how small, can create ripple effects of kindness and empowerment throughout our community.
